Mr. Speaker, I rise today to congratulate Amalgamated
Academy on winning the best play award in the junior
division of the 2008-2009 Regional Drama Festival.
Eastern School District organized the festival in
partnership with the College of the North Atlantic and
the Northern Avalon Tourism Association.
Students from twelve schools took to the stage at the
Princess Sheila NaGeira Theatre in Carbonear.
In addition to the Best Play award, Amalgamated
Academy also earned the best use of light award and the
best ensemble in a theatrical production award for their
performance in the play, Floating on a Don’t Care
Cloud.
Alex Oates took home the award for best actor in a
supporting role.
Mr. Speaker, I ask all hon. members to join me in
congratulating the organizers, the students and the
coaches for their efforts, and in particular, the
Amalgamated Drama Troupe.
