Jones Responds To The LMN Forestry Agreement

June 1, 2004

Yvonne Jones, MHA for the District of Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair, says she is pleased that a forestry agreement has been reached with the Labrador Metis Nation (LMN).

"This agreement is a positive step for the Labrador Metis Nation," said Ms. Jones. "The Liberal government negotiated the first MOU in forestry and was ready to finalize the agreement before the election. This agreement has now been passed and it is important that government continue to have input from all stakeholders in Labrador on forestry development.

"This fund will allow the LMN to be full participants in the policy, development and environmental monitoring of the industry in Labrador. I fully expect government will co-operate fully with existing foresters and industry operators to ensure that local businesses continue to grow and expand their operations for the benefits of people in Labrador."
