Petroleum Products office staying put

Opposition pressure forces commitment from Premier

April 15th, 2004

Anna Thistle, MHA for Grand Falls - Buchans, is delighted with the commitment made by the Premier today in the House of Assembly concerning the Petroleum Products Pricing Commission.

"During question period George Sweeney, Opposition Government Services Critic and MHA for Carbonear-Harbour Grace District, asked the Minister of Government Services to confirm whether plans were underway to move the office to Corner Brook or St. John’s. The commissioner’s three year contract is nearing an end and it had been speculated that the office would be moved. Minister Whalen refused to answer the question and stated that a review process was underway," said Thistle.

"Following the question and further opposition pressure, the Premier called across the House that he was committed to retaining the office in Grand Falls - Windsor and the opposition should not be worried. I fully intend to keep the Premier to task on this commitment.

"I now call on the Minister of Government Services to confirm publicly that she is committed to the word of the Premier and will keep the office in Grand Falls - Windsor."
