Provincial Liberals express condolences to the O'Brien family
December 17, 2004

Opposition Leader Roger Grimes, Cartwright - L’Anse au Clair MHA Yvonne Jones, and Torngat Mountains MHA Wally Andersen said the passing of Labrador MP Lawrence O’Brien is a very sad day for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. All three MHAs expressed their condolences to the family of Mr. O’Brien.

"I have known Lawrence O’Brien for quite some time," said Mr. Grimes. "He was truly a great representative for the people of Labrador, and indeed all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. He has always spoken very passionately for the interests of this province. He will certainly be missed by all those who knew him. I send my condolences to his family and friends who are remembering him as a great Labradorian."

Yvonne Jones, MHA for the District of Cartwright and L’Anse au Clair, said "Lawrence O’Brien has always put Labrador issues first and foremost. He undertook the job of MP with the promise that he would be a strong proponent of Labrador and represent the unique issues that face our region. He fulfilled this promise with great force. As result of his efforts, Labrador is a better place and his valuable contribution will not be forgotten."

Wally Andersen, MHA for the District of Torngat Mountains, said "Labrador has lost one of its true sons, a true pillar of strength for our people. We are stronger today because of Lawrence’s representation over the past eight years. While Labrador is hurt today, we are not weakened. His legacy and contribution will be remembered for years to come."
