Opposition Leader Roger Grimes announced today that the Liberal Opposition
caucus will gather in Corner Brook this weekend for their regular caucus
meeting.
"This weekend’s meeting will provide our caucus with the opportunity to
discuss strategy for the coming months," said Mr. Grimes. "We will continue
to remind the people of this province of the negative decisions that the
Danny Williams government have taken in their first nine months in office,
and we will ensure they are held accountable for any decisions that are made
in the future.
"On Friday morning we will be holding a press conference to update the
people of Newfoundland and Labrador on this government’s record. They have
now had nine months in office, brought down a budget, and had a full
legislative session in the House of Assembly to move forward with their
initiatives. Unfortunately, this government has not lived up to their
commitments and we will be supplying an updated "lack of progress" report
for the people to judge for themselves.
"While government has been somewhat quiet this summer, we fully expect
them to continue with their slash and burn agenda and launch another attack
on the public services of this province. While hundreds of jobs have already
been cut and services reduced, we are expecting health care cutbacks to be
the next prong of this government’s agenda. I assure Premier Williams and
his cabinet that this issue will be discussed in great detail this weekend
and we will be prepared to speak on behalf of Newfoundlanders and
Labradorians to ensure their best interests are protected.
"I look forward to productive meetings this weekend. Our caucus is
anxious to speak with the people of Corner Brook and the west coast region
to hear their concerns first hand." |
