Andersen raises auditorium during question period

Holds hope for budget

March 29th, 2004

Wally Andersen, MHA for Torngat Mountains district and Opposition Labrador Affairs critic, raised the $2.4 million auditorium for Happy Valley - Goose Bay in the House of Assembly on Thursday.

"I have raised this issue many times over the past number of months and the government has been unable to give an adequate reply," stated Andersen. "They continually tell the people of Labrador that last summer’s funding announcement is under review and may not be included in the budget.

"I brought the issue to the House of Assembly again last week and received the same reply. The children in Labrador are losing out on an important learning experience because of the inability of the government to make decisions. If we took all the money the government is spending on special reports and reviews, the $2.4 million auditorium could be built."

The Liberal MHA is disappointed that children in Labrador has been waiting on edge for so long, and will be watching tomorrow’s budget closely to see what will be in it for Labrador.

"I still have hope that the government will come through in tomorrow’s budget for the children in Labrador. The local arts community has been asking for this facility for long enough. I am confident that if the government truly evaluated this expenditure, there is no question that it will proceed."
