Grimes wants fixed link study released

February 11, 2005

Opposition Leader Roger Grimes is calling upon Premier Danny Williams to release the fixed link study that government has had in their possession since last fall. Government has been stalling on releasing this document, despite continually stating they will be an open and transparent administration.

"Both the provincial and federal governments invested in excess of $350,000 to have this study completed," said Mr. Grimes. "It’s been over a year since the study was initiated, months since the government received the report, yet the Premier still refuses to release the findings to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"The Premier promised in his election Blue Book that his government would release every government commissioned report within 30 days of receipt. We are well past that period of time and in the spirit of openness and transparency, I call upon Premier Williams to release the results of this study immediately.

"The people of the Northern Peninsula have waited anxiously for this study for over a year. The results are in, the analysis has been completed, why is government not willing to release this report?"
