Joyce says capital works funding issued for the Town of Meadows is good news

March 9, 2006

Eddie Joyce, MHA for the District of Bay of Islands, says a recent decision by Municipal Affairs Minister Jack Byrne is good news for the Town of Meadows.

Two new schools were approved for the Bay of Islands by the former Liberal Administration, St. James School in Lark Harbour and the new K-12 school on the North Shore of the Bay of Islands. The final piece of the project was upgrading School Road and Country Road in Meadows. The Department of Municipal Affairs recently approved $192, 151 to ensure these roads are brought up to the proper standard.

"I thank Minister Byrne for his positive decision on this issue," said Mr. Joyce. "The upgrading of these roads was necessary for safety reasons associated with the flow of traffic for Templeton Academy in Meadows. This money will help finalize a project that has been in the works for the past several years.

"I have been lobbying the school board and government officials for the completion of this project since 2003. Minister Byrne has been very helpful in this matter and I want to commend his understanding of the issue and the importance of upgrading these roads. I also want to extend my appreciation for the hard work put forward by the Town Council in Meadows and the officials in the Corner Brook office of the Department of Municipal Affairs.

"While it has been a long time coming, the people of the North Shore of the Bay of Islands now have a new school with the appropriate road infrastructure to be constructed. I am hopeful that future issues that arise in my district will be resolved in a similar, constructive manner."
