April 9, 2007

Judy Foote, MHA for the District of Grand Bank and Liberal Opposition Caucus Chair, extends condolences on behalf of the Liberal Caucus to the families and friends of the six Canadian Forces soldiers, especially to the two Newfoundland and Labrador families, who lost their sons this past weekend in Afghanistan.

AWe are saddened by the loss of our soldiers and for the families and close ones who now have to cope with their grief and the difficult healing that comes with this type of tragedy.

AIn particular, as MHA for the District of Grand Bank, I express deep condolences to the family of Private Kevin Kennedy who was a native of St. Lawrence.Kevin will be remembered for his dedication to his mission and has left a legacy ofhonor and respect.

Kennedy, together with Sgt. Donald Lucas of St. John=s, were two of the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who died in the Afghanistan attack. AWe strongly stand with the families and friends of Kevin and Don as they come to terms with this news and move towards a sense of healing in the months ahead.

AToday, the Liberal Opposition and its staff pay tribute to the citizens at the forefront of securing peace, unity and freedom in the world.? These sons and daughters go beyond the boundaries of our own country to work for a better place to live for all world citizens.? Their work involves a great deal of sacrifices as was evident this past weekend.? May families, friends and supporters of these fallen soldiers be strengthened by the inspiration that their heroics involve.@
