Ball disappointed MHA Marshall refuses to support residents fo Pasadena

March 23, 2007

Dwight Ball, MHA for the District of Humber Valley, says he is disappointed that Humber East MHA Tom Marshall refused to present a petition in the House of Assembly today supporting the people of Pasadena and their request to keep their entire community within one electoral district. Marshall also voted against the wishes of the people and the town council of Pasadena by supporting the electoral boundaries legislation debated today in the House of Assembly.

AI would fully welcome the people of Pasadena into the electoral district of Humber Valley,@ said Mr. Ball. AHowever, the majority of residents have advised me that they want the entire town to remain within the same electoral district and not be split between Humber East and Humber Valley. It is unfortunate that their current MHA would not support their request and instead voted against the people=s wishes.

AThe people of the Bonne Bay and Trout River area have also told me that they want to remain within the boundaries of Humber Valley. As their MHA, I could not stand and support this legislation knowing that so many individuals would be impacted against their will.

AWhile the residents of Pasadena are not currently my constituents, I will fight their cause to ensure they have an effective voice. When their own representative refuses to present a petition on their behalf and support their viewpoint, I feel others have to step forward to voice these concerns. I will certainly stand up and be heard on behalf of all people living in our region.

AWith the passage of this legislation, I am disappointed for the people who wanted to keep their communities in the same electoral district. However, I will continue to work on behalf of my former constituents and my new constituents to ensure they have a strong voice that will raise their issues and have their concerns addressed.@
