Opposition supports NDP request to maintain party status

March 15, 2007

Opposition Leader Gerry Reid says he supports a request by the New Democratic Party (NDP) to maintain their party status heading into the October general election.

"After consulting with our caucus during our meeting today, we support the NDP request to maintain their party status in the House of Assembly. We are only seven months away from the general election and it would certainly be unfair to strip the NDP of their staff and the right to ask questions in the upcoming session of the legislature. As a result, our representatives on the Internal Economy Commission (IEC) will support a request by NDP Leader Lorraine Michael to maintain the status quo. We are hopeful that the Tory members of the IEC will also support this request."
