Motor Vehicle Registration Centre line-up
needs priority attention: Opposition

Liberal Opposition Critic for Government Services, and MHA for the District of Port de Grave, Roland Butler, says it is important that government address the long waiting times being experienced by people at the Motor Vehicle Registration Centre in Mt. Pearl.

"I have heard complaints that the line-up is too long and people have to wait for extended periods of time," says Butler. "Some people have reported having to even take a day off work to do something that should only take a few minutes. There is obviously something wrong and it is time Minister O’Brien focus his attention on this issue and explain what will be done to address this problem.

"Clearly, this standard of service is not acceptable to the public and the minister who heads the department needs to get a handle on this and reassess how the service can be upgraded. The people of this province have a right to expect levels of service from government the same as would be available in the private sector. The attitude at the top, from the minister right on down, has to change and a priority placed on the needs of the people requiring this service."

The Liberal critic says the problems being experienced have been occurring for too long. " It is not a temporary back-up and it is time for someone to look at the overall delivery of this service with a view to giving the public what they deserve - better service."
