Seal products fashion show a huge success and opportunity for the province

Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones, along with Ms. Newfoundland and Labrador, Sara Green, both took part in a seal products fashion show Saturday night at the Northern Lights 2010 Conference which took place in Montreal. Jones called the event a great promotional opportunity for the province and demonstrated the beauty and diversity of seal clothing currently available in the marketplace.

“I was very pleased to participate in this fashion show and model a number of seal skin products to the hundreds of people in attendance,” said Ms. Jones. “The audience certainly got a better understanding and appreciation for seal products and this only strengthened our promotional activities as we look for new and emerging markets for our products.

“The outstanding craftsmanship and quality of the products that were presented truly demonstrated that this is a growing market and every opportunity must be used to get our message out to domestic and international buyers. Seal skin fashion shows are a unique way of showing off these products and I would encourage other groups to use this type of promotion in the future to combat the false messaging and propaganda put out by the anti-sealing groups.

“I also want to thank Ms. Newfoundland and Labrador, Sara Green, for her participation in this fashion show. She was a great ambassador for our sealing industry and province and certainly made us all proud in Montreal. She again demonstrated her strong support of our seal hunt and reinforced the value, quality and importance of these products to our province.”

Jones was also the keynote speaker from Newfoundland and Labrador at the conference and highlighted the many business and industrial opportunities available in Labrador. “Labrador is well-positioned to be an economic leader in development in our province through our mining, forestry, fishing, natural gas, tourism and growing transportation networks. There are many opportunities for investors in this region of our province and this was the message that I wanted to leave with the delegates in attendance.”

The Northern Lights Trade Show and Conference attracted several hundred exhibitors and delegates for the three-day event. Representatives from business and government, as well as those who represent northern regions of Canada, came together to learn about the opportunities available throughout the north.
