Jones encourages settlement on Voisey’s Bay strike

The labour dispute between Vale Inco and its unionized workers at Voisey’s Bay is not benefiting anyone and both sides must get back to the table to find a resolution, says Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones.

The workers at Voisey’s Bay have been on strike since this summer and very little progress has been made. It has been reported that Vale Inco has made a new offer to the workers yesterday to restart the negotiating process.

“This strike is creating significant financial hardship on families and the economic loss in the local community is taking its toll,” said Ms. Jones. “The goal for both sides is to reach an agreement and I am encouraging everyone to get back to the negotiating table in an effort to find common ground. Government should also do everything possible to help facilitate talks between the parties involved. It is in everyone’s best interests to find a timely resolution to this strike. With co-operation and willingness from all players, I am hopeful a resolution can be found.”
