Opposition Leader
offers prayers and support to Labrador families
Opposition Leader
and MHA for the District of Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair, Yvonne Jones, says
she shares deeply in the grief unfolding in Labrador as three families deal
with the presumable loss of their children.
While the search
continues, it is believed three young men lost their lives in an accident
near the Muskrat Falls earlier this week.
“The Labrador region
is gripped in disbelief and grief by this tragedy and it has left all of us
shaken and solemn,” say Jones. “The magnitude of our collective grief is
all the more profound because in small towns, everyone knows everyone and
the heartbreak and the devastation is hitting each and every one of us.”
The MHA says she
offers her support and prayers to the Russell and Clark families in
Charlottetown, the Sansbury and Dyson families in Cartwright and the Rose
family in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. “Two of the boys I knew well and they were
remarkable young men.
“These men were true
sons of Labrador as they held a strong passion and love for the land and the
sea. They grew up honing their hunting and fishing skills and spent a great
deal of time in boats and on snowmobiles. They had a special bond to this
place that brought them a great deal of inspiration and fulfillment. They
were also very compassionate and caring young men with close-knit family and
community connections.
“The loss of these
Labrador sons will be irreplaceable for the families and for the communities
they grow up in. The young people in this area are taking this event very
hard and people everywhere are holding these families in their thoughts and
prayers. On behalf of the people in the District of Cartwright-L’Anse au
Clair, I hope they find solace and strength from all those who support and
care for them as they face this ordeal.” - 30 -
