Opposition Leader to attend Labrador
Winter Games
Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones, MHA for the District of
Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair, will be attending the Labrador Winter Games
being held in Happy Valley-Goose Bay from March 7th-13th.
“I always enjoy attending the Labrador Winter Games and
witnessing the tremendous athletes in our region of the province, our
traditional sporting activities and the spirit of friendship that is present
throughout the games,” said Ms. Jones. “I look forward to meeting the
athletes, watching the events and enjoying the Labrador hospitality that is
always present amongst our people.
“I also want to recognize the efforts of the hundreds
of volunteers who always come forward to make these games a success for
everyone involved. Without their efforts there would be no games and their
importance cannot be overlooked. The Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is this
year’s host community and I am certain they will do a tremendous job as
always in organizing a top notch experience.”
Over 400 athletes from communities throughout Labrador
will participate in the games. Events include target shooting, dogsled
racing, snowmobile racing, cross country skiing, snowshoe races, northern
triathlon, snowshoe biathlon and the Labrathon.
“These winter
games demonstrate our uniqueness as a people, highlights our traditional way
of life and outlines the true spirit of Labrador. I wish all of the athletes
good luck and will certainly be putting in an extra cheer for those
competing from the south coast of Labrador.”- 30 -
