Dunderdale snuck Matthews appointment past the public, Jones discovers
Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones says she
is shocked that Elizabeth Matthews has already been secretly appointed to
the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.
“The PC government actually appointed Ms.
Matthews to the offshore board back in December, but never told the public,”
said Jones, who has obtained a copy of the appointment letter. “What they’ve
been trying to do since then is promote her to the rank of
vice-chairperson.”
Jones noted the Dunderdale government’s
accompanying biography of Ms. Matthews, which it is using to convince the
federal government to agree to make the former PR director the
vice-chairperson of the C-NLOPB, falsely portrays her as the brain trust
behind the Williams administration.
“Her title was Director of
Communications,” said Jones.
The Liberal Leader said it is
unacceptable that Kathy Dunderdale would appoint a former communications
director to a position which should be filled by someone with expertise and
experience in regulatory and marine safety issues.
“How many more secret
appointments has Kathy Dunderdale made since Danny Williams left office?”
said Jones. “And when are we going to get some accountability from this
government?”
