Liberal MHA for Cartwright-L’Anse au
Clair, Yvonne Jones, will attend “Seal Day on the Hill” tomorrow,
February 2nd, outside the House of Commons at 1:45pm EST. The
event is organized by four federal cabinet ministers representing
northern ridings and will take place directly before Question Period.
“I look forward to standing with
fellow seal hunt supporters, notably where our federal government
convenes, and showing my support for our sealing industry and for those
employed by it,” Jones said. “Sealing is such a vital part of our
heritage and we must do all we can to ensure its economic success and
cultural longevity.”
Jones noted that it’s important in
light of recent comments that questioned its future to send a strong
message that the sealing industry is not dying.
Jones will also be attending the
2012 Northern Lights Conference in Ottawa from February 1st-4th,
and will host a gala showcase of sealskin products on the final day of
the conference.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to
show people gathered in our nation’s capital, from all over the country,
that we have top quality seal products that are quite in demand,” said
Jones.
