Minister's Decision a Good First Step

Liberal Fisheries Critic, St. Barbe MHA Jim Bennett says that Minister Darin King’s decision to refuse OCI to export unprocessed yellowtail flounder is a good first step but the government must do much more to re-build the processing sector in the province.

He says it has become apparent to everyone that the Dunderdale Government has no long term plan for the fishery, no vision to formulate such a plan and lack the courage to put such a plan in place.

Bennett demands that the government put forth its complete position on the fishery before the House of Assembly opens in March, and introduce legislation that demonstrates a firm commitment to maximizing the value of the fishery for residents of the Province.
