Ball Welcomes Closure of Ottawa Office

Dwight Ball, Leader of the Official Opposition, today welcomed the announcement of the closure of the province's Ottawa office.

"Our caucus has questioned the necessity of this office from the beginning and after more than a year where the people of the province paid for an empty office, the Premier finally reached the right conclusion - the office was unnecessary and needed to be closed,” said Ball. “Now that the office has closed, the task of maintaining communication with the Federal Government has returned to the people who should rightly have that responsibility; the Premier and other elected members."

Ball noted that since the Premier has now re-assumed responsibility for communications with the Federal Government he hopes she stands up to the Harper Conservatives on the many significant issues facing the province.

“The Harper Conservatives are implementing severe cuts to services that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians depend on. This includes closing the Search and Rescue Centre and cuts to Service Canada, DFO, 5 Wing Goose Bay and health transfers,” said Ball. “These are all important issues for people of the province and the Dunderdale Government must take a strong stand on behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”
