Government promise to take skin removal issue to cabinet a cop out: Parsons Liberal MHA Andrew Parsons stated today that a second letter from the Minister of Health and Community Services to Kevin Carter on the issue of MCP covering skin removal surgery is a cop out. “The original letter from the Minister had no reference to a ‘phase 2’ process of taking this issue to cabinet,” said Parsons. “It appears that the Minister has only introduced a second phase as a result of negative public reaction.” Parsons noted that the Minister has given no commitment to a time frame in which she will discuss this issue with her cabinet colleagues, meanwhile Mr. Carter and other patients continue to suffer. “I’m calling on the Minister to exercise her ministerial discretion and order this surgery to be covered by MCP,” said Parsons. “Government’s primary concern should be the health and safety of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and should act in a proactive manner to prevent pain and injury. Unfortunately, this has not been the case.”- 30 - Media Contact: Peter Miles| Director of Communications
