New Democrats need to make definitive statement on seal hunt: Bennett
Liberal Fisheries Critic, St. Barbe MHA Jim Bennett, is calling on the provincial NDP to make a definitive statement on the Newfoundland and Labrador seal hunt.
“Public comments by NDP MP Ryan Cleary raise serious concerns and questions on if the NDP support the traditional seal hunt,” said Bennett. “I understand there will also be a motion at the upcoming federal NDP convention to ban the seal hunt.”
Bennett noted that provincial NDP leader Lorraine Michael has been silent in the aftermath of Cleary’s comments and is asking her to make a definitive statement.
“It’s time we hear from Ms. Michael on if she agrees with her federal colleague that it’s time to end the hunt,” said Bennett. “I certainly hope this is not the case.”- 30 -
